Following stops in Oslo and Tromso, you will touch down in Longyearbyen and after ensuring all of your kit has survived the journey, head straight to the campsite for your first night in the arctic.
The following days will see you unload the shipment of group equipment and head via boat to your base camp by the southern edge of the north Sveabreen on Oscar II Land.
Once settled at base camp, you and your fire will move onto your fieldwork objectives – to enable this will be a healthy dose of adventure including glacial travel, snow shoeing and mountaineering dependent on your research plans.
Travel will be made using inflatable powerboats to get you away from the noise of base camp and into isolation – this transport will mean you can complete a journey from start to finish and be fully dependent on yourself and your team for practical and social support – this feeling of wilderness isolation is guaranteed to surprise and stay with you for years to come.
Your exact project of study and activity on expedition will be dependent on your input and motivations. You will have the opportunity to choose your area of interest at the briefing weekend and contribute to the planning of your movements on expedition – good practice for planning your own trips in the future.
