Coastal Svalbard 2010

This expedition is special not only in destination and research opportunities but also in the range of adventurous activities available. There will be two distinct phases of expeditioning that will see you participate in a sea kayak journey around the coastal regions to the north west of Isfjorden and also see you put your feet on dry ground, mountaineering on glaciated terrain to collect land based data for you fieldwork projects.

No previous experience is needed for this expedition but there will be the opportunity to participate in more advanced paddling if you develop to the required standard.

The exact itinerary is currently being finalised but plans are being discussed to paddle in and around NyAllesund on the west coast with the opportunity to mountaineer across glaciers and mountains to a pickup point. The leader team are highly qualified and experienced and the fieldwork is especially strong with a repeat Chief Scientist who has worked with the British Antarctic Survey.

Living out in the remote arctic wilderness, you will discover the joys of living minimally, the thrill of sleeping under the night sky and the beauty of wild camps on secluded shores as you explore this fascinating region.
