BSES plans to take a two month expedition to Oman early in 2011.
We are delighted to be considering an expedition to such a culturally rich and environmentally fascinating country.

By kind permission of the Government and Authorities of the Sultanate of Oman, BSES hopes to be able to make valuable contributions to the body of environmental study and research work, and to further understanding of this wonderful environment.

Details are subject to further planning and confirmation by a detailed reconnaissance.

It is therefore the intention of this page to seek expressions of interest from those wishing to take part in such a rare and special expedition environment. All enquiries are welcomed and encouraged at this early stage.

Proposed expedition activities:
  • Desert living and working
  • Desert field studies and techniques
  • Desert travel
  • Wildlife monitoring
  • Remote surveying
  • GIS and radio/satellite comms
  • Conservation research
  • Desert ecology
  • Geology
  • Perimeter mountains
  • Dune studies
  • Bedouin Anthropology
  • Archaeology
  • Lost cities and trade routes
